Developing Counseling Skills for Teachers: A Transformational Workshop

In today’s dynamic and ever-evolving educational landscape, teachers play a crucial role not only as educators but also as mentors, guides, and counselors. Students often face academic, emotional, social, and personal challenges that can impact their learning and overall well-being. To support students effectively, teachers must develop essential counseling skills to provide guidance, foster resilience, and create a supportive classroom environment.

This interactive workshop will equip teachers with fundamental counseling skills to address students' concerns with empathy, active listening, and problem-solving strategies. Educators will gain a deeper understanding of student behavior, mental health concerns, and effective communication techniques to build trust and rapport.

Key Learning Outcomes:

1. Understanding the Concept of School Counseling – Learn the foundational principles of counseling within a school setting and its significance in students' academic and personal growth.

2. Identifying Emotional and Psychosocial Issues – Recognize signs of anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and autism, and understand how these affect student behavior and learning.

3. Addressing Burning Psychosocial Issues – Explore pressing psychosocial challenges that students face today and their impact on academic performance and emotional well-being.

4. Understanding Substance Abuse and Suicidal Risk – Identify warning signs of substance abuse and suicidal tendencies, and learn intervention strategies to provide timely support.

5. Implementing Counseling Skills in Teaching – Enhance your role as a teacher by integrating counseling techniques such as active listening, empathy, and effective communication to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

We are pleased to collaborate with SN Mishara, a dedicated school counselor and M.Ed/M.Phil scholar at Kathmandu University, who brings over two years of experience in the field.
